Welcome to Lapwai
About
The City of Lapwai is a small, but transforming city, geographically located in North Central Idaho. Nestled in a valley between rolling hills, it is within the boundaries of both Nez Perce County and the Nez Perce Indian Reservation. We are within a 30 minute drive to mountain meadows, rolling farm lands, rugged back country and numerous rivers, lakes, and outdoor adventures, an airport, inland seaport, malls, and other conveniences. All four seasons are celebrated, but milder winters are normal.
Lapwai is centered in “one of Idaho’s most historic spots.” Our past brought together the Nez Perce, early explorers, settlers, and technology, the U.S. Army, important Protestant and Catholic missionary efforts, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and an early, integrated educational program. Lapwai is also the capital city for the Nez Perce Tribe. We invite you to come visit us in our unique, historical city that remains a blend of the past and present and a mixture of cultures.
