- Residential garbage cans must be 5 ft away from any objects including overhanging vegetation.
- Dead animals or portions thereof placed for collection must weigh less than 10 pounds and be securely tied in a plastic bag and in a container with a tight-fitting lid.
- Broken concrete, rocks, plaster, discarded building materials, trees, large tree limbs, and other bulky waste may not be placed for collection as household waste.

Lapwai Container Site
- Lapwai’s Container Site is located north of town on Third St West.
- It is currently open the first and third Saturday of the month from 9 am to 4 pm.
- The usage of the container site is for those currently receiving curbside services only.
- It is a local residential drop site, contractors are not allowed to dump at the site.
- This is a City of Lapwai and not a Nez Perce County drop site. Click here for County Sanitation information.
- For questions regarding usage of this site please contact Lapwai City Hall @ (208) 843-2212.
Large items
Larger items can be disposed of at Lapwai’s Container Site. Please do not leave larger items on the streets or outside the gate of the container site. Curbside service will not pick up larger items left on the streets.
Yard Waste
City residents can dispose of loose, un-bagged yard waste such as limbs, shrubbery, and leaves at Lapwai’s Container Site. (Please do not dispose of plastics, metals, or glass in the yard waste area.)
Recycling Services
Although we encourage recycling, at this time there is no official recycling service set up. The Nez Perce Tribe does provide containers for recyclables. Contact Nez Perce Tribe’s Recycling Program for more information at (208) 791-3965.
Illegal dumping
Illegal dumping is a major problem in many communities and results in increased costs to residents. The City asks our residents to report any illegal dumping and to only leave their household and yard waste in designated places at the designated times. Leaving waste on streets, backroads, waterways, vacant lots, neighbor's trash containers, or in front of container site gates during closed hours is considered illegal.
*Warning: Cameras are installed at the Container Site and fines will be imposed on those who are dumping illegally.
Cleanup Days
At least once a year there will be a City-wide cleanup day by the City of Lapwai, Nez Perce Tribe, local groups, and students. The City and our sanitation contractor will place large containers around the city for a week of collection of larger items in the spring or fall. The Container Site will also be open the day after Christmas. These opportunities will be advertised in advance.
